Why We’re Unable to Offer Our Products in the EU (For Now)
At T. Weatherhead & Co., our mission has always been to bring you timeless, handcrafted goods that embody quality, artistry, and care. Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to share our products with customers all over the world, and your support means everything to us. However, we want to be transparent about a change that impacts our European customers.
Understanding the New EU GPSR Regulations
As of December 13, 2024, the European Union’s new General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) has come into effect, introducing stricter compliance requirements for businesses selling products within the EU. These regulations are designed to enhance product safety and transparency, particularly in an era of digital innovation and cross-border commerce. One of the key requirements of the GPSR is that businesses located outside of the EU must establish a legal presence within the Union. This representative is responsible for ensuring that the business’s products meet the new safety standards and for liaising with regulatory authorities.
While we fully support the EU’s commitment to consumer safety, these changes bring significant logistical and financial challenges for small businesses like ours. Maintaining a legal representative in the EU entails considerable costs that are difficult to absorb without impacting our pricing structure or compromising the quality of our handcrafted products.
What This Means for Our EU Customers
Regrettably, due to these new requirements, we are currently unable to offer our products for sale within the EU. This decision was not made lightly. As a small shop, we must carefully navigate regulations and costs to ensure we can continue crafting the high-quality, sustainable goods our customers love.
Looking Ahead
While we are unable to serve our EU customers at this time, this is not a permanent goodbye. We are closely monitoring how the new regulations evolve and exploring potential pathways to bring our products back to our valued European audience in the future. Your support and enthusiasm for our work inspire us to find a solution that aligns with both the regulatory landscape and our commitment to craftsmanship.
Thank You for Your Understanding
To our EU customers, thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these challenges. We remain hopeful that we will find a way to share our products with you again. In the meantime, we are always here to answer your questions or keep you updated on any changes.
Thank you for being a part of the T. Weatherhead & Co. family. We value your support more than words can express and look forward to the day we can once again bring our handcrafted creations into your homes.
Warm regards,
Tom Weatherhead
